Jason Fond - Helping Others Succeed

Jason Fond, as the Director of Orthopedic Surgery at Nyack Hospital in Nyack, New York, finds his job much easier if he can rely and trust all the medical professionals on his staff. He was deemed the perfect man for the directorship because he always showed a propensity to work well with other doctors, nurses, and specialists to form productive working relationships and help patients by working together, not against each other. This spirit of collaboration spills over to working with his patients as well. He values their input and only suggests invasive treatments such as surgery if they are absolutely necessary.

For Jason Fond, working well in teams is always a key part of his job. While some other doctors may scoff at the idea of sharing their work with other doctors, Dr. Fond embraces his role as a part of the team that is dedicated to better community health for the surrounding area of Nyack Hospital. Jason Fond has long been an advocate of collaboration between doctors, which was a huge deciding factor when he was made the Director of Orthopedic Surgery. Dr. Fond has used the help of many doctors over the years to treat his patients and provide the best service he possibly can. He sees other doctors and medical professionals such as nurses as resources that he can use to help his patients. He thinks others should be more welcoming of collaboration in the medical community.

Jason Fond still manages a private practice in the area called Northeast Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, which was formed from several private practices in the area.

Jason Fond - Working for Nyack Hospital

Jason Fond worked at the private practice he helped found in upstate New York called Advanced Orthopedics and Sports Medicine for 13 years before, in 2014, his practice and several other orthopedic practices in the area merged and became Northeast Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, dedicated to serving the Rockland County area in New York. He also serves Rockland County as the Director of Orthopedic Surgery for Nyack Hospital in Nyack, New York. Dr. Fond became the Director of Orthopedic Surgery in 2007. Since then he has helped many patients resolve their orthopedic injuries, diseases, and conditions related to their musculoskeletal systems and managed a team of highly skilled and specialized doctors.

Jason Fond wanted to work for Nyack Hospital because of its commitment to efficiency, service, and patient well-being. Throughout his career, Jason Fond has worked to perfect his bedside manner and his diagnosing skills so that he can work with patients to develop the best treatment plan possible for all of his patients. Dr. Fond believes in the values instilled by Nyack Hospital, values that encourage collaboration with patients and other doctors at the facility, help specialists like himself do their work in helping patients, and contribute to the community of Rockland County as a whole.

Jason Fond developed experience and expertise as an orthopedic surgeon so that he could help athletes play the sport they love again, and so that people could live happy, active lifestyles. Dr. Fond has created opportunities for people to move and be active without joint or ligament pain.

Jason Fond - What is Orthopedics?

Jason Fond decided to make his mark in the local medical community in Rockland County, New York by studying Orthopedics. This is not an easy field to become proficient enough in to make a career. To be an orthopedic surgeon like Dr. Fond, medical students have to work for several years in a residency after they specialize in the medical field in medical school. Dr. Fond decided that he wanted to help people stay active and healthy, so he entered the orthopedic field. Since he completed his residency and education as an orthopedic surgeon, he has performed thousands of successful surgeries to repair damage to ligaments, tendons, muscles, joints, and more. He has also successfully treated injuries with far less invasive treatments, and remains committed to helping people recover from serious sports injuries and conditions using noninvasive treatments whenever possible.

Jason Fond is now the Director of Orthopedic Surgery at Nyack Hospital in Nyack, New York in Rockland County. He took this position in 2007 after a long career in private practice in the area treating patients with orthopedic injuries and conditions. Over the years, Dr. Fond has worked with many different athletes and people who need to be able to lead active, healthy lifestyles. He is a former assistant trainer of the Washington Redskins and the Miami Marlins. His experience in orthopedic medicine is extremely extensive. Since 2014, Dr. Jason Fond has also worked as the President of Medical Staff at Nyack Hospital, a position he earned due to his prowess as a physician and his extensive and compassionate work with all of his patients.

But what is Orthopedics and why is it important? Orthopedics is a medical specialty that focuses entirely on injuries and diseases of the musculoskeletal system. This system involves bones, joints, ligaments, muscles, tendons, and nerves that work in complex harmony to allow the body to move, work, and stay active. When the specialty was born, it was devoted to caring for children with limb and spine deformities, but over the years, orthopedics has expanded to help people of all ages, from children born with deformities to young athletes trying to recover from injuries and return to the field, and elderly people suffering from arthritis. Jason Fond is proud to be a part of this tradition.

Orthopedic surgeons treat orthopedic issues by diagnosing injuries and disorders that occur to the musculoskeletal system. During his early career, Jason Fond worked with athletes who needed treatment for injuries suffered on the baseball and football fields. Over time he began working to treat disorders and conditions in a variety of ways, including medication, surgery, and exercise routines designed to strengthen ligaments, tendons, muscles, and joints. He also works hard to provide his patients with information and treatment plans designed to prevent injuries and conditions to occur in the first place.

Jason Fond - Technology and the Healthcare Field

We are living in an age of rapid technological advancements and growth. Everything from personal computers to cellphones has changed the way we learn, entertain, work and interact with the world around us. As a surgeon, Jason Fond is well aware of the impact that technology has on the medical profession, but while advances in surgery and other treatments often make the news, there are other ways in which technology is helping to change the face of healthcare.

One of the biggest ways in which technology is changing the healthcare field is simply how much easier communication between different hospitals has become. For example, one of the goals of President Obama's Affordable Care Act was to increase funding for hospitals to transfer patient records and other files to digital formats since many of them were still relying on hardcopies. This transition has made it easier than ever for doctors and other healthcare professionals to share patient records and other documents between medical centers.

Another benefit is that the Internet has provided patients with much more information regarding medical conditions and healthcare professionals. While you should never attempt to diagnose yourself, it can be useful to have an easy way to remind yourself of the common symptoms of your disorder along with the over-the-counter-medications that can treat it.

Jason Fond role as a surgeon has given him a keen understanding of the way technology affects the healthcare industry. While there will undoubtedly be some negative side effects, he ultimately feels that the increased access to information and communication will make things better for doctors and patients alike.

Jason Fond - Combining Two Passions

Jason Fond began his medical training in 1991 when he enrolled in the Albert Einstein School of Medicine, but his medical aspirations truly began when he was a teenager. When he was still in high school, he sustained a serious back injury that required him to undergo spinal fusion surgery. This injury was sustained during the course of a diving accident. Such an injury might have proved discouraging for some people, but not for him. Indeed, not only was his passion for sports undiminished, but he’d found a new one as well: medicine.

After graduating from Tufts University, Jason Fond was accepted into the Albert Einstein School of Medicine at Yeshiva University. It was there that he began to realize his dream of combining his twin passions of sports and medicine into a career.

After receiving his M.D. in 1995, Jason Fond went onto attend two different residency programs before finding employment at Advanced Orthopedics and Sports Medicine where he worked to help injured athletes recover from their injuries and get back onto the field.

In addition to his career as an orthopedic surgeon, Jason Fond’s passion for sports shows in other aspects of his life as well. Many of his pastimes involve sports, such as golf or basketball, and he has served as a physician for several sports teams at the high school, collegiate and professional levels.

Jason Fond is one of those lucky individuals who has been able to combine two passions in order to build a successful career.

Jason Fond: TENEX Health TX

Jason Fond has been practicing medicine for 15 years and has seen numerous technological advances in the field of orthopedic surgery. One of the most promising ones he has seen is TENEX Health TX, which is used for treating the condition commonly known as tennis elbow.

Tennis elbow is a condition where the tendons in the elbow become stretched and worn out from persistent use. Previously, the only known way to treat the issue was to cut open the elbow and remove the damaged tissue. It was rather painful procedure with a recovery time of up to six weeks.

The TENEX Health TX system uses a hand-held instrument called the TX Micro Tip which uses ultrasonic energy to remove the damaged tissue.  The previous treatment involved placing the patient under general anesthesia and cutting the elbow with a scalpel. Using the TX Micro Tip, Jason Fond places the patient under local anesthesia and uses the device to remove the damaged tissue. The procedure only takes about 20 minutes and recovery time is generally short with patients being able to function completely normally within about six weeks or less.

The TENEX Health TX system is fairly new technology and Jason Fond was one of the first surgeons to make use of it. He is currently training other surgeons to use it as well, as he feels it is a much better option for patients and doctors alike because it gives the same results of the previous surgery with much less pain and a far shorter recovery time.

Setting a Good Example for his Children

Dr. Jason Fond is not only an excellent orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine physician; he is also a dedicated father to three children. There is nothing he wouldn’t do to make his children happy and show them how to be good citizens. He loves teaching them and encouraging their positive growth. When Jason isn’t busy with his patients, Jason can be found cooking with his children, taking them to plays, and helping them become active in their community.

As an avid volunteer, Dr. Jason Fond believes that giving to causes you are passionate about is one of the most important things you can do in your life. Not only do you gain the satisfaction of doing something good for a charitable cause, but you help make the life of someone in need a little better. This compassion for helping others is something Jason hopes to pass on to his children.

From a young age, Dr. Jason Fond has been active in sports. As an orthopedic sports medicine physician, Dr. Fond has been able to translate that passion into treating team members on professional and college level teams. This excitement and love for sports has transferred to his children as they all enjoy a love of sports and have learned the valuable lesson of teamwork and healthy competition. Dr. Fond is excited about his children’s love of sports and can be found coaching their various sports teams on the weekends.

Passing on His Medical Knowledge

Jason Fond knew from an early age that he wanted to practice medicine. After suffering a sports-related injury, Jason decided he wanted to be the one to help people. In 1987, Jason began his academic career and started down the path to becoming a doctor. In 2001, after successfully completing his sports medicine fellowship at Georgetown University, Dr. Fond started his own orthopedic sports medicine practice and began helping to alleviate people’s pain and helping them get back to a normal life.

After many successful years helping patients with surgical and non-surgical treatments, Dr. Jason Fond was recognized for his talent and dedication to the field. With his experience and vast knowledge of orthopedics, Dr. Fond was appointed an educator position at the Dominican College in New York. As an Assistant Clinical Professor of Orthopedic Sports Medicine, Dr. Fond shares his knowledge and experience with the students as they pursue their academic endeavors. Dr. Fond has also taken on the role as team physician for the college’s many sports teams, addressing injuries the players incur during their sport and practice.

Dr. Jason Fond has enjoyed working with students and has taken up with St. Joseph’s Regional High School, in New Jersey as their team physician. Having grown up in New Jersey, Dr. Fond was happy to give back to the state and is glad he can impart his knowledge and wisdom to others. Dr. Fond plans to continue teaching and helping students in any way he can while continuing to provide his patients with the high-quality care he is known for.

An Interview with Dr. Jason Fond regarding how to best recover from surgery

Question: Dr. Jason Fond, what advice do you give your patients when they’re recovering from shoulder surgery?

Dr. Fond: After shoulder surgery, patients typically require a sling for 2-6 weeks depending on the repair performed.  If the patient underwent a rotator cuff or labral repair, the area may take 3 months to heal.  During the recovery phase, the patient typically will benefit from physical therapy to gradually work on range of motion and strengthening.  The shoulder may take a full 12-18 months to recover fully after a repair.

Question:  Dr. Fond, what can patients expect after a typical knee arthroscopy?

Dr. Fond:  Knee arthroscopy is a minimally invasive procedure performed in an outpatient setting.  Patients can typically walk immediately after the procedure and usually do not require crutches. If the surgery is uncomplicated, the patient can begin range of motion exercises immediately.  After a short period of rest and activity modification, the patient may gradually return to sports and exercise.

Question:  Dr. Fond, can patients return to a normal level of sports after knee arthroscopy?

Dr. Jason Fond:  In a typical patient who sustains a cartilage or meniscus injury to the knee, an arthroscopy is a straightforward solution to the problem.  The torn fragment of cartilage is usually removed relieving the patient’s pain and disability.  After a period of rest and rehabilitation, most patients can return to their previous level of sports and activities.

3 Reasons Jason Fond Attended College in another State

Jason Fond, a New York born man who was raised in New Jersey, decided at a young age that he was interested in medicine. While selecting an institution for his post-secondary education, Jason Fond evaluated options, both in his home state, and in states across the country. Eventually, Jason Fond decided on Tufts College in Massachusetts. Jason Fond regards this decision as a positive one for the following reasons:

Growing More Independent

When making the decision to go to an out of state college, one of Jason Fond’s main criteria was his own personal growth. In Jason Fond’s mind, a college in another state would allow him greater independence.

Learning About a New Area

Exploring a new area was among Jason Fond’s reasons for selecting an out of state college. Though Massachusetts is still in the north east, Jason Fond was able to experience living in a new area and learn about life in a new state.

Meeting New People

Among the list of reasons Jason Fond chose to go to a school out of state was the desire to meet new people. Making friends in a new state allowed Jason Fond to broaden his social horizons, and eventually led to a larger pool of contacts. Establishing contacts across the country has helped Jason Fond build his practices and career.

For these reasons, Jason Fond recommends out-of-state study for those interested in new experiences.

Jason Fond - Recovering from a Sports-Related Injury

An active child, Jason Fond loved participating in sports. He took part in several team-based activities including football, baseball, and basketball. Jason could also be found participating in a variety of other physical pursuits. However, as a teenager, Jason sustained a serious injury that jeopardized his future participation in sporting activities and other physical pursuits.

As a teenager, Jason Fond severely injured himself diving into a pool, causing him to question whether he would be able to participate in the sports he loved again and to ponder how the injury would affect his day-to-day life. To treat Jason’s injury and return his mobility, Jason underwent spinal surgery to have several of his vertebrae fused together. With extensive rehabilitation and continued treatment, Jason fully recovered from his injury and was able to return to his normal activities.

The injury Jason Fond suffered as a teenager profoundly impacted his life. The experience opened him up to the world of orthopedics and sports medicine and instilled in him a passion to help others. As a result, Jason chose a career in orthopedics and has since become an expert in his field. His practice, Northeast Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, is dedicated to treating patients with both surgical and non-surgical procedures. Jason applies the lessons he learned, during his time as a patient as an adolescent, to provide his patients with the highest quality care and exemplary bedside manner. Jason’s reputation precedes him, and his patients couldn’t be happier with the attention and service they receive from Jason and the rest of the staff at Northeast Orthopedics and Sports Medicine.

Jason Fond: Alleviating the Stress of Surgery

Jason Fond has 15 years of experience as an orthopedic surgeon. He worked for Advanced Orthopedics and Sports Medicine for 14 years before he moved on to work at Northeast Orthopedics and Sports Medicine.  Throughout the course of his career, Jason Fond has performed thousands of successful surgeries and always strives to make his patients as comfortable as possible during what is undoubtedly a difficult time.

He knows that one of the biggest reasons people get so anxious at the prospect of surgery is the simple fact that a lot of them don't really understand what the surgery entails. Indeed, oftentimes patients don't even truly understand their own injuries beyond a superficial level.

Jason Fond knows that one of the best ways to alleviate this stress is simply to talk to the patient and ensure that they understand both their injury and the recovery options available to them. He always takes the time to walk his patients through their injuries and makes sure to answer any questions that they might have. He's found that a little bit of understanding can go a long way towards reducing the stress that often accompanies the prospect of surgery.

Another thing that can make the thought of surgery easier to swallow is simply trust in your doctor.  However, it is understandable that the idea of surgery would make anyone a bit nervous.  Surgeons are sometimes criticized as having a poor bedside manner. Jason Fond knows that a poor bedside manner can sometimes lead to a lack of trust between patient and surgeon. He combines a sense of professionalism with a relatable bedside manner and sense of humor that helps relieve a patient's stress and build trust, which Jason Fond feels is a key component of a successful surgery.

Despite his career as a surgeon, Jason Fond never pushes his patients to have surgery. He understands that the decision to undergo surgery is, ultimately the patient's choice to make, and is an important one that shouldn't be taken lightly. His objective isn't to convince a patient to have surgery. Instead, he wants to help his patients return to their best quality of life while doing so in a way that they both are comfortable with.

He simply lays out the patient's treatment options and helps them come to an informed decision. Jason Fond believes that a patient's choose of surgeon, and whether to have surgery at all, should be based on mutual trust and understanding.
